INFO411 Lecture 2 preview
Tomorrow afternoon will be our Lecture 2. The topic is data clustering. We’ll perhaps spend two or even 3 weeks on this important subject.
You can preview the lecture on our course website. The 6-up print-out is here.
Tomorrow we’ll look at the basic approaches of clustering – the ideas, and then go to look at a famous ‘k-means’ algorithm closely. With lots of graphs and pictures to show, I’m sure everybody will be entertained with thoughts. Next week we’ll then take a side track and do some review on the concept of ‘probability’, which will then enable us to look at other probabilistic solutions on clustering. More algorithms will be introduced. We expect to do some lab later on.
For the third meeting on the topic, we’ll take a look of some ‘neural’ approaches, again, very entertaining with Java applet demos.
