I always wonder what’s the next topic some psychologists may experiment on, something, for instance, like ‘babies shut in a dark room can’t read and pronounce well’ – which is obvious and weird at the same time. Just kidding. Sometimes there are interesting questions raised.
Yet this one, that Visual cues help people understand spoken words, has been a well-known fact for people working on multimodal patter recognition, especially speech recognition (using lip shape analysis in video frames). There are heaps of publication on that already…
No offense to psychologists, but I think this explains perfectly why we should read widely, at times, even into other disciplines, saving us from reinventing the wheel.
